Foreign Nationals Employment Act revised
On November 12, 2013 the Dutch Upper House approved the proposal to revise the Foreign Nationals Employment Act (Wet Arbeid Vreemdelingen).
Under the new law, work permits will only be granted for one year. A new permit must be applied for when the employment continues after expiry of the permit. Besides that, employers are obligated to pay minimum wages, even for parttime jobs.
Under the old law, an employee could obtain the right to work without a separate work permit after having legally resided and worked in the Netherlands for an unbroken period of three years. Under the new law, this period will be exended to five years.</p Source:
